New York State’s Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) is gearing up for the holidays with addtional LIRR Services for this weekend’s last minute holiday shoppers and city party goers on New Year’s Eve.
Friday, December 22nd will see thirteen new trains in rotation for holiday shoppers and those leaving work early for holiday family fun. Tomorrow’s extended schedule is posted here. Eight addtional trains will operate from Penn Station on December 29th to accomodate the ringing in of the new year. You can find the schedule for additional New Year’s services on MTA’s Website. Check below for links to fares and overall train schedules.
History Fun Factoid: Did you know that your Long Island Rail Road was the busiest commuter railroad in North America? The LIRR services just over 282,000 passengers every day with most trains originating or terminating at Penn Station in Manhattan. The Long Island Rail Road operates 24-hours-a-day, 7-days-a-week, including all holidays, with service intervals varying by destination and time of day - it is 172 years old! Now that’s some history!
Safe travels and a happy holiday season to you!
