Take a Tour of My Babylon Village, Long Island, Home for Sale

Come and Explore this 1918, 5 Bedroom, 2.5 Bath, Vintage Dutch Colonial in Babylon Village

You are about to tour a thoroughly gracious and spacious home built in 1918. We don’t want you to miss a thing, so let us draw your attention to some of the special features this home offers:

The exterior of the home has been professionally landscaped with beautiful gardens. The landscaping was done with low maintenance in mind – nothing fussy. The large maple tree in the back garden is one of the oldest I the village, providing plenty of shade for summer parties.

As you enter the living room, please stop to admire the custom crown moldings, other moldings, and beautiful natural stone fireplace. The custom moldings continue throughout the home. The closet to the left of the fireplace is shelved, while the closet to the right is a generous coat closet. Newly refinished solid oak floors add to the clean and spacious look of this oversized living room (18 x 24) and dining room.

Walking through the living room to the right, you see the dining room, large enough to hold two dining room tables with all their leaves in place. There is a window seat to wile away the hours in contemplation. The wainscoting is original to the home and offsets the raspberry walls. The room is light and airy with its five windows. Window treatments convey.

Continuing through the dining room, you enter the Eat-In-Kitchen with its newly refinished maple floors. Most of the appliances are new or updated. The refrigerator has a five year warranty. Storage will never be a problem here! There are two pantries as well as all of the cabinets and drawers. Off the kitchen is a spacious half-bath. Notice all of the walls are wainscoted in the second pantry and the bathroom. Another special feature of this home is the backstairs. This allows easy access to the second floor from the kitchen. Again, everything is freshly painted or papered.

Off the living room to the west, there’s a sun-filled den with wood paneling. There are a number of dedicated circuits in this room for computers and other high-powered equipment.

Again, off the kitchen, open the door that goes to the back door, a mudroom, to an extremely large walk-in closet and down to the basement. The house has oil hot water cast iron radiator heat. The new oil tank was recently installed. There is a separate hot water heater that is only two years old. The laundry is in the basement now. (Previously, it had been in the pantry off the kitchen and could easily be relocated there again.) The floor beams used in this house had been used previously as deck timbers of a coastal sailing vessel from the 1900s.

Now it’s time to go upstairs. The second and third floors are bedrooms and baths. Here, surprises continue as the size of the bedrooms and the bath will amaze you. The house has five bedrooms and two full baths on the upper floors. The master bedroom suite has a fully updated bath. Each bedroom has at least one walk-in closet with built-in shelving. The bedrooms on the third floor also have built-in dressers and bookshelves. All floors are white pine and have been refinished. Everything is freshly painted and papered.

The hall bathroom is huge with an extremely large linen closet. There is a separate blanket closet at the top of the back stairs as well.

Have you noticed the backyard? There’s a 3-car, two-story garage detached from the house at the end of the long concrete driveway. This garage has water, electricity, and its own oil burner. We have left it rustic looking with barn-like doors. The walls are all wainscoted. We think that the garage pre-dates the house considerably and conveys, “As is”.

Babylon Village is a friendly waterfront community with a thriving downtown. The mayor knows nearly everyone by name. There are numerous village amenities such as the Village Pool (Olympic size), boat docking, the golf course, and many more. Among the annual village events are the September craft fair that draws over 100,000 visitors, tuna tournament, and parades for every occasion, 5K run is for charity, and Friday night concerts at the Gazebo. Parks and playgrounds abound. All of this is in addition to Village services (backyard garbage pickup, snow removal, etc.) that go beyond the expected, i.e. your mail is still delivered to your door. Minutes from Fire Island ferries, Robert Moses State Park, and Captree State Fishing Charters lead to your summer pleasures.

This ends the tour of our beautiful home. We hope that it has answered some of your questions and has expressed its unique charm enough to encourage you to consider making it your home soon.
