2007 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade

The parade starts at 9am on 77th Street & Central Park West in NYC. This traditional parade has taken place for over 85 years. This tradition started in the early 1920’s as a celebration by many Macy’s employees, who were first generation immagrants, of their new American heritage. At first they dressed up and marched the streets of New York City. In 1927, after this tradition had become very popular, large balloons began to appear for the parade. In 1950 the parade began to be broadcasted nationwide with the growing popularity of the television.
