Netter Real Estate agents are skillfully trained to sniff out the finest homes on Long Island, like those inThe Moorings in East Islip.  Irene Lockel, Associate Broker with Netter Real Estate, went above and beyond when she spotted Santa Claus with some of his friends at the East Islip Fire Department.

Irene, always with her eyes open and her camera ready, chased Santa through the gorgeous gated community of The Moorings.  What did Santa want that day?  Does he want to take advantage of the reasonable home prices and absolutely fantastically low interest rates and make the big move to make The Moorings his new home?

Who could blame Santa for wanting to spend a little extra time in The Moorings.  Life here is very different than life at the North Pole for sure.  The Moorings is a guard gated waterfront community established in 1963 and it is comprised of 100 one-acre homes.  Santa’s castle is also guarded 24 hours per day, 365 days per year and has video surveillance as well — just as The Moorings does — but the qualifications of the guards at The Moorings are far superior than that of Santa’s elves.  Plus, while Santa’s North Pole kingdom is vast, it would be nice to have 99 neighbors to visit.  And the governing association at The Moorings are far more fair and reasonable than the elves are (when they are not making toys, elves can be downright cranky).

Sadly, there aren’t any water views on the North Pole.  The Moorings has spectacular views of The Great South Bay.  Getting to Fire Island from the North Pole is a great journey…but from The Moorings, it’s incredibly easy.  The Moorings has its very own Marina.

Working off all those cookies would be a cinch in The Moorings.  They have their own private tennis courts.  At last Santa will have challenging opponents in his neighbors at The Moorings (playing against the elves really isn’t very satisfying for him).

Feeling Itchy?  It’s poison Ivy time!

These plants contain an oily substance called URUSHIOL that causes a red, bumpy rash in many people.

If you think you have come into contact with one of these plants, wash with soap and water  as quickly as possible.  If you do this, you may stop a reaction.  If it is longer than that, the oil has already penetrated the skin and washing it will no longer prevent the rash, but it may help reduce the severity.

Treatment  Options:

1. OTC  cortisone cream 2-3 times a day
2. Anti-itch lotion such as calamine lotion
3. OTC antihistamine such as Benadryl or Zyrtec
4. Take an oatmeal bath

But see the doctor if the over the counter products don’t work, blisters are oozing, or if you develop a fever of over  100° F

IvyBlock (ivyblock.com) is the only FDA approved OTC barrier cream.  Use like a sunscreen.

The key to preventing that rash is knowing  what these plants look like and the avoid them!
